Blunt Meets with Rock Island District Army Corps Commander

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) met last week with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District Commander Colonel Mark Deschenes to discuss Upper Mississippi River-Illinois Waterway management issues, including river navigation and flood control priorities.

“The Mississippi River is critical to our region’s identity, culture, and economy,” Blunt said. “Colonel Deschenes and I had a constructive meeting regarding the Upper Mississippi River-Illinois Waterway, and we will continue working together to improve the operations and maintenance of this vital artery of commerce.”

Last month, Blunt joined U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (Iowa) to launch the bipartisan Mississippi River Caucus, an initiative intended to focus congressional efforts on important river management goals such as addressing flood mitigation, encouraging commerce along the Mississippi River, and generally assisting river communities with their concerns.
