Comments Sought on Duluth Channel Dredging

The City of Duluth is accepting public comments during a 30-day public review period from April 1 to May 1, 2013, on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) that was prepared for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 21st Avenue West project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District proposes to place limited quantities of dredged material from maintenance dredging of the Federal navigation project at Duluth-Superior Harbor into the embayment of the 21st Avenue West Channel in Duluth, Minnesota.

This will allow for evaluation of using dredged material from maintenance dredging of the harbor for aquatic habitat restoration.

The Planning Commission will take optional public comments at their April 9, 2013, Planning Commission meeting. Optional public comments will also be heard at this same meeting on the EAW for the proposed CN Dock 6 Stabilization Project.

The Planning Commission will likely make a decision on the USACE EAW and the potential need for an EIS at their May 14, 2013, Planning Commission meeting.
