UK: CIRIA’s Management of Landfill Conference Set for May

CIRIA's Management of Landfill Conference Set for May

“Management of landfill sites and contaminated land on eroding coastlines” conference is scheduled for 3rd May 2013, in London.

Over the years, processes of coastal erosion and sea flooding have resulted in material from landfill sites and other areas of land contamination being deposited on the foreshore, or seeping into the sea.

This can have public safety or health consequences as well as negate impacts on the natural environment. Such instances are likely to be experienced more frequently as a consequence of climate change and sea level rise.

The subject spans the waste management and pollution prevention and control sectors, as well as the flood and coastal management sector and affects a range of public – and private sector land owners.

This event will explore the issues and challenges inherent in managing landfills on eroding coastlines. The scale of the problem will be revealed and possible solutions discussed.

Presentations from top speakers will offer a number of different perspectives and these will be augmented with case studies of current practice. In addition, CIRIA’s new guidance on the topic will be introduced.
