Port Manatee Commends Governor Scott

Port Manatee applauds Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Legislature for providing more than $278 million in funds to develop and enhance Florida’s 15 seaports as outlined in the 2013-2014 Florida Families First Budget.

Port Manatee Executive Director Carlos Buqueras released the following statement:

“In August, Governor Scott attended Port Manatee’s Berth 12 and Groundbreaking Ceremony in support of the Berth 12 extension and phase one of a planned 52-acre dedicated container terminal, a project that once complete will usher in hundreds of new jobs and a new source of revenue for Port Manatee, which does not receive any ad valorem tax support from the citizens of Manatee County.”

Buqueras added, “This week, by approving a budget that includes large investments in Florida’s infrastructure, Governor Scott and the Florida Legislature have demonstrated once again a tremendous commitment to Florida’s economy and job creation, not only in Manatee County, but throughout our great state. At Port Manatee, we welcome the news of the strategic investment in Florida’s future and remain steadfast in our commitment to maximize our unique position as the closest U.S. deepwater seaport to the Panama Canal, with ample room to grow, to help Florida emerge as the gateway for international trade into the U.S.
