Australia: Patawalonga Dredging Program to Last Six Months

The Patawalonga dredging program will commence later this year and will last about six months, according to abc.net.au.

This sediment removal work, worth $5.7 million, would help alleviate any flood risk for residents in the Glenelg area, stated Water Minister Ian Hunter.

A decade ago when a weir gate failed to open overnight, there was flooding of several streets, affecting up to 200 properties.

The Patawalonga River is a short river that was, before European settlement, a tidal estuary. The river is serviced by a 210 km2 catchment that exists in metropolitan Adelaide, with its mouth at the suburb of Glenelg.
