Australia: Mackay Port Dredging Set for Next Week

Mackay Port Dredging Set for Next Week

On 20 August, NQBP will commence a maintenance dredging campaign to keep Mackay Port both safe for ships and open for business.

The maintenance dredging campaign will be conducted over five days and remove approximately 115,000 cubic metres of material that will be relocated to an already approved and previously used site.

Approvals for the maintenance dredging campaign have been granted by both the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments and a range of external parties, including both recreational and commercial fishermen, were consulted during the approval process.

The port’s Technical Advisory and Consultative Committee has also been briefed on the details of the maintenance dredging campaign.

NQBP has installed a water quality logger near Slade Islet and will keep monitoring water quality in the area for the next three months.
