Lake Superior Harbor Dredging Starts (USA)

Lake Superior Harbor Dredging Starts

The Lake Superior Harbor dredging project has officially commenced, according to northlandsnewscenter.com.

During this $1.4 million cleanup program, nearly 115,000 cubic yards of sediment will be removed from the harbor shipping channel and placed at the 21st avenue West embayment.

Regarding this very important deepening project, Corey Weston, the project engineer with the Duluth Army Corp of Engineers, said: “If we don’t continue to dredge and maintain the shipping channel then there’s potential that ships could get grounded on the bottom, or it just causes a lot of problems with the local shipping industry.

The Lake Superior Harbor dredging is expected to be completed in November, informs northlandsnewscenter.com.
