The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, awarded a $4 million construction contract for the Sunfish Lake Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project (HREP) in Pool 12 of the Mississippi River just south of Dubuque, Iowa, in Jo Daviess County, Ill.

The contract, awarded to Dubuque Barge and Fleeting Service Company of Dubuque, is for stage one of the overwintering HREP at Sunfish Lake.

The contractor will perform work including clearing, tree disposal, mechanical excavation (dredging), placement site preparation, transportation of the material to the placement site, shaping the placed material, and a rock closure structure for the overwintering habitat project.

Work is scheduled to begin in early October. Once work has begun, the contractor has 745 days to complete this stage.
