AAPA Commends U.S. House T&I Committee Leaders

Following an announcement by the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) President and CEO Kurt Nagle lauded the leaders of these committees for championing legislation that moves the nation closer to a final water resources bill to spur vitally needed maintenance and improvements in America’s seaport-related infrastructure and waterways.

AAPA and America’s seaports today welcomed the introduction of the Water Resources and Reform Development Act (WRRDA, H.R. 3080) in the House. We commend T&I Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA), the committee’s ranking member, Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), Water Resources and Environment Committee Chairman Bob Gibbs (R-OH) and the subcommittee’s ranking member, Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY), for their leadership in advancing this vitally important legislation,” he said.

“America’s public ports and their private sector partners are investing more than $9 billion annually into their facilities and seaport infrastructure. Our nation needs the federal government to uphold its end of this partnership by making badly needed investments into improving the land- and water-side connections with seaports.

“AAPA and its member ports are in the process of reviewing the details of the WRRDA legislation so we can more fully discuss the specific provisions of the bill. We look forward to working with T&I Committee and the full House to pass this water resources bill to address the infrastructure needs of seaports throughout the United States.”

The House’s WRRDA bill is the companion to the Senate’s Water Resources Development Act (WRDA, S. 601) legislation that was passed last May.
