H.R. 3080 Passage - Crucial Investment in Florida’s Future, Says Webster

Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued this statement yesterday following his vote in favor of the bipartisan passage of H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013, by a vote of 417 to 3:

Florida’s fifteen seaports support more than 500,000 Florida jobs and generate $66 billion in total economic value. The coming expansion of the Panama Canal offers the potential for even greater economic opportunity and job creation in Florida, but only if our infrastructure is prepared for it.

“Today, I voted in support of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013. As the first water infrastructure authorization bill since 2007, passage of this legislation represents a crucial investment in Florida’s future as a hub for international trade and commerce. It also represents a necessary investment in Florida’s natural environment and safe drinking water supply, by moving forward several critical Everglades restoration efforts.

“This bill, which actually cuts more than it spends, is a down payment on our future economy and environment. It reforms federal bureaucracy, is fiscally responsible, strengthens accountability, and creates jobs – all without a single earmark. I applaud Chairman Shuster for his work with the Florida delegation to ensure Florida’s needs are met with this long overdue legislation.”
