USA: Cedar Beach Replenishment Project Completed

Cedar Beach Replenishment Project Completed

Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner have announced the completion of a beach replenishment project at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai.

The project, which was completed in-house by town workers from the Parks and Waste Management Departments, restored the beach in the eastern bathing section and in front of the concession stand that had suffered storm damage erosion. Banks along the shore of the marina were also restored, and plantings are being done to prevent further erosion.

In all, over 7,000 yards of sand were moved during the regrading project.

Supervisor Romaine said: “Cedar Beach and Mount Sinai Harbor are two of the Town’s great natural assets. Thanks to our Parks and Waste Management workers, we’ve been able to repair the storm damage and help protect the peninsula from flooding in the future.”

“Mother Nature has been relentless over the past few years,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “I commend the Parks and Waste Management Departments for getting this work done before we were hit by another hurricane or Nor’easter which could have been disastrous.”
