Scarborough River Dredging Set for January

Maintenance dredging of the Scarborough River in Scarborough, Maine, will be completed under the terms of a $1,698,134.00 contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by North America Landscaping, Construction and Dredge Company, Inc., of Ellicott City, Md. Dredging is scheduled to start on or about Jan. 6, 2014 and take about three months to complete. The contract was awarded on Dec. 2, 2013.

The Scarborough River in Scarborough empties into Pine Point Harbor at Saco Bay, between the Pine Point and Prouts Neck sections of the town, situated about 8 miles south of Portland.

This contracted project consists of maintenance dredging on an 8-foot deep mean lower low water (MLLW) entrance channel, a 6-foot deep MLLW channel, and a 6-foot deep MLLW anchorage.

The work consists of dredging about 114,300 cubic yards of sediment, including one foot of allowable over depth,” said Project Manager Michael Walsh, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs/Project Management Division in Concord, Mass.The dredged material will be removed using a hydraulic dredge and pipeline. Disposal will be on the adjacent Western Beach as beneficial use material.”

The dredging project will be managed by the Corps and all work will be accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
