Gladstone Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct Project Takes Shape

The East Shores – Gladstone Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct project is progressing well, with construction of the waterfront boardwalk and viewing deck now underway.

Pile-driving activities have now been completed at the $45M project, which is being delivered by Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) and Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET), and the placement of concrete deck units to create the viewing platform has commenced, with approximately half of the units in place.

Préfabrication of the concrete deck units was undertaken in a casting yard on site and the units were then transported by crane to the waterfront site for installation.

Significant pile driving was required to construct the boardwalk along Auckland Creek in preparation for the installation of the viewing platform.

These works were spread out over a number of months to reduce inconvenience to local residents and surrounding businesses.

The removal of soft earth and stabilisation of embankment continue to prepare the site for construction of the new facilities.
