Shem Creek Dredging Program Makes Progress

The Shem Creek dredging project is currently underway, according to moultrienews.com.

Regarding this cleanup program, which commenced last week, Eric DeMoura, the Mount Pleasant Town Administrator, said: “The increased depth of Shem Creek will directly support our commercial fishing industry, improve the access to our public park, allow a wider navigation channel for larger boats, and be beneficial to all water related activities that will ultimately support residents, local businesses along the creek and our tourist industry.

The heavy siltation in the creek causes navigation difficulties for the boaters, reports moultrienews.com.

This nearly $970,000 cleanup project, undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will last no longer then 45 days.
