The Philippines: SENWATEC Dredging Equipment Arrives in Cagayan de Oro

Dredging Equipment Arrives in Cagayan de Oro

Last week, the Japanese Government delivered two SENWATEC amphibious excavator-dredgers to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). This equipment was acquired through the Non-Project Grant Aid of the Government of Japan.

Minister Akio Isomata of Japan’s Minister of Economic Affairs handed over the dredging machines to the DPWH as a Japan-funded Non-Project Grant Aid for the Restoration and Disaster Prevention in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Akio Yonezawa of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, DPWH 10 Asst. Regional Director Efren Barba, City Mayor Oscar Moreno, and Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (2nd District), among others.

These dredging machines will help in the cleanup projects on the major rivers of Cagayan de Oro City to prevent them from overflowing. The assistance, signed two years ago, provided P315 million for the purchase of necessary products for the recovery and disaster prevention of Typhoon Sendong affected areas.

Japan, as the top donor of ODA to the Philippines, as well as a disaster-prone country itself, has supported the Philippines’ disaster mitigation and management efforts by sharing its experiences and lessons learned from the past natural disasters.
