Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Facility Expansion at Port Guam is planned for April 14th , reports pacificnewscenter.
The Ceremony will be hosted by the Port Authority of Guam.
Funded, in a large part, by a $50 million grant from the Department of Defense and administered in tandem with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD), the Guam’s only commercial seaport modernization kicked off with the groundbreaking on January 28th, 2013.
The port modernization project was needed to accommodate organic growth and upcoming military realignment.
“ Although there is a reset in our modernization plan, it is critically important that we implement these activities now to address potential increase in cargo demands that both organic growth and the military buildup may bring to Guam’s seashore, ” stated General Manager Joanne Brown in a recent press release.
Marina renovation, site improvements and dock repairs have been done so far within the Port of Guam modernization project.
