The Philippines: DPWH to Start Dagupan Rivers Dredging

Dagupan Rivers Dredging About to Start

Dredging of the shallow rivers in Dagupan is about to begin.

This was bared by City Engineer Virginia Rosario when she made a report during an executive meeting called Monday afternoon by Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Rosario said the DPWH will deploy three dredging machines in Dagupan, two of which are now in the Dagupan while a new one just purchased by the DPWH, the Water Master III, is now on the way.

The good thing about this is that the Dagupan City government will not spend a single centavos as all the expenses for fuel of these dredging machines will be shouldered by DPWH.

But the city government must sign a Memorandum of Cooperation, not Memorandum of Agreement with the DPWH regarding this project.

Rosario said national and regional officials of DPWH are set to arrive in Dagupan on April 23 to conduct an ocular inspection of the rivers that would be dredged.

Mayor Fernandez hailed the report report that dredging of rivers in Dagupan is now about to start and went on to thank Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas for helping follow up the project with DPWH.

Fernandez asked Secretary Roxas for help as there is a need to fasttrack the dredging of rivers in Dagupan since it is now just only few months before the rainy season will set in.

She also acknowledged the big help of Pangasinan Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia for bringing out the recurrent flood problem of Dagupan with DPWH.
