Panama Canal: Gatun Lake Entrance Dredging Set for April 29

Gatun Lake Entrance Dredging Set for April 29

From April 29, through May 1, 2014, dredging operations will be conducted at the Gatun Lake entrance on the East side of Pedro Miguel Locks between the center wall and the East prism line, and north of the center wall, announced the Panama Canal Authority.

This dredging work is necessary for the removal of shoals, which have become critical due to the low level of Gatun Lake.

During this period, the East lane at Pedro Miguel Locks will be closed to allow the dredging equipment to operate uninterrupted.

The West lane of Pedro Miguel Locks will also require an outage for dredging operations, which are tentatively scheduled for May 9-11, 2014.
