Senators Push for Great Lakes Restoration

The co-chairs of the Senate Great Lakes Task Force, Senators Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Mark Kirk, R-Ill., led a bipartisan group of ten Great Lakes senators in urging the Senate Environment and Public Works committee to take action on the Great Lakes Ecological and Economic Protection Act.

The bill would formally authorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative to clean up and restore the Great Lakes.

In a letter to the committee, the senators wrote: “Taking action on this legislation would help ensure that we are wisely targeting taxpayer dollars to address the most serious problems facing the Great Lakes.”

The letter was signed by Sens. Levin and Kirk, and by Sens. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., Rob Portman, R-Ohio, Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Al Franken, D-Minn., Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Amy Kobuchar, D-Minn., and Robert Casey, D-Pa.
