Picture of the Day: Siesta Key Beach Renourishment

This major beach renourishment project consisted of restoring two miles of beach. Beach restoration involves pumping dredged sand from the ocean floor back onto the beach, restoring it to a healthy state.

The Siesta Key project will provide critical protection to homes and businesses along the Sarasota County coastline from damage commonly experienced with high category storms.

The work involved the dredging and placement of 887,400 cubic yards of fill material. Other features of work included removal of a derelict structure, dune planting, beach tilling, and vibration monitoring.
