DENR: Swimming Not Yet Feasible at Iloilo River (The Philippines)

Swimming Not Yet Feasible at Iloilo River

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional office has yet to give the green light for swimming at the Iloilo River as coliform concentrations are still above standards.

However, the current trend shows the general improvement of water quality in the river especially improvement at the Calajunan Creek while the Dungon Creek is still way below the standard unless relocation of informal settlers and dredging activity are undertaken.

PENRO Raul Lorilla reported that as resolution was unanimously approved by the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council (IBRDC) last February 28, 2014 by “adopting Oplan Sustainable Workplan for Iloilo River Management (IM) as a program for the improvement of Iloilo River and its tributaries Dungon and Calajunan creeks in Iloilo City.”
