NQBP: Temporary Reopening of Mackay Marina Southern Breakwater

Temporary Reopening of Mackay Marina Southern Breakwater

The southern breakwater at the Mackay Marina has long been a popular destination for residents and visitors to walk, run, cycle or fish.

North Queensland Bulk Ports said that it has temporarily reopened the breakwater for public access.

Maintenance works are currently paused while NQBP assesses a range of options for undertaking required future work and secures the supply of armour rock required. The available rock was exhausted late last week, earlier than had been anticipated.

The breakwater will be closed again to the general public from mid-July to enable the repair and maintenance works to resume. This work is anticipated to continue until late December 2014.
