Congressman Tours Foster’s Creek Dredging Project

Congressman Tim Bishop recently visited the Foster’s Creek dredging program. Bishop became involved at the request of Ponquogue Marine Basin.

For years, marina owners along the creek were concerned about their continued ability to navigate between the creek and the bay.

Prior to dredging, the channel had become so narrow that boats could only be moved during high tide. Congressman Bishop worked with the marina owners and local agencies to ensure the proper permits were issued in a timely manner.

This is an example of what can be accomplished when various level of governments are willing to work together toward our common goal,” said Congressman Bishop.

The dredge crew was professional and diligent, and worked incredibly hard during the course of the whole project. The project was a complete success and was also finished a week ahead of schedule. Everyone involved in this project, public and private, worked extremely hard to make this project a success. All the public will benefit from these efforts,” said William Stubelek of Ponquogue Marine Basin, Inc.

As a result of the dredging project, approximately 9,400 cubic yards of material was slated to be removed. The work was performed in-house by the Suffolk County Department of Public Works at a total cost of $30,000.
