Stone Placement Contract Awarded to Help Fight Erosion in 17th Street Canal, USA

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for erosion protection along the interior of the 17th Street Canal floodwall in Jefferson Parish.

The contract will help protect an area that has historically experienced erosion.

The contract was awarded to the Veteran-Owned Contracting Group JV, LLC for the amount of $4,296,516 on June 26, 2014. Work is expected to be complete in spring 2015.

The project entails the placement of stone along approximately 7,200 linear feet of canal bank, adjacent to the interior of the 17th St. Canal floodwall. A one foot layer of stone will be laid over geo-textile fabric extending from the top of the bank down the slope.

As construction of this work begins and the adjacent Permanent Canal Closures & Pumps (PCCP) continues, residents and commuters are urged to use caution near active construction sites.
