CARIS HPD Fully Integrated into NHO India Operations

The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD) is the agency responsible for hydrographic surveys and nautical charting to support national and international agencies, as well as public and private sector activities in Indian waters.

INHD utilizes leading equipment and techniques as part of their commitment to provide accurate hydrographic information in a timely manner and to ensure customer satisfaction.

As part of their continuous modernization, in June 2011 INHD implemented a database driven production system at National Hydrographic Office (NHO) India, which is responsible for the publication of paper charts, electronic navigational charts (ENCs) and other nautical publications.

The enterprise system, which included CARIS HPD and Bathy DataBASE, provided NHO India with technical infrastructure to improve the management of hydrographic information and increase rates of production for their extensive chart portfolio.

Today, the database solutions are fully integrated into their operations and data acquired from INHD surveys undergo quality control at NHO India, which is then integrated into the database for production of chart products. Since the initial implementation NHO India has produced a notable 77 paper charts and 92 ENCs from the database environment.

Now entering their fourth year of production with HPD, the hydrographic office also has approximately 40 other paper charts and equivalent ENCs at various stages of completion. The release of the additional products will further enhance marine safety, international trade and other maritime activities, and highlights the ongoing efforts of NHO India to provide accurate and updated information for mariners in the region.
