DLNR to Hold Meeting on Hanalei River Restoration Work

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has invited the public to attend an informational meeting regarding the construction to restore a breached stream bank at the Hanalei River.

The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on July 24, 2014, at the Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church Mission Hall in Hanalei. At the meeting, DLNR representatives, design consultant AECOM and construction contractor Goodfellow Bros., Inc. will discuss construction activities and scheduling of the project.

DLNR is proposing the repair of approximately 100 feet of a severely eroded section in the stream bank of the Hanalei River. The breach is located approximately five miles upstream of the river mouth. Engineering improvements to repair the stream bank will reduce further erosion and minimize the chances for the existing breach to increase during future flood events.

Construction is scheduled to begin in August and conclude before the end of the year.
