Deltares: New Report on Coastal Risks Presented

Deltares Participates in Framing Vision on Coastal Risk

The U.S. National Research Council has issued a new report on coastal risks along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts of the United States.

The report is written by a panel composed of a number of U.S. scientists and one non-U.S. member, Ap van Dongeren of Deltares.

The panel calls for a national vision for coastal risk management that includes a long-term view, regional solutions, and recognition of the full array of economic, social, environmental, and safety benefits that come from risk management to reduce the impacts of natural disasters along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States.

To support this vision, a national coastal risk assessment is needed to identify coastal areas that face the greatest threats and are high priorities for risk-reduction efforts.
