LUSCHI to Start Dredging of ArcelorMittal Canal

LUSCHI is about to mobilize its vessel, “Giovanella”, to Espírito Santo where it will assist in dredging and final disposal of accumulated sediments in the seawater storage canal of ArcelorMittal.

The canal is approximately 600 meters long and has sedimentation volume of approx 46,000 m³.

The project aims to use the trailing suction hopper dredger that will suck up the sediments into its own tanks for disposal in offshore waters, provided by Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo – Codesa.

The suspension of sediments during the dredging operation should be minimized with the use of a protective barrier, made of non-woven geotextile with apparent opening size (0.15 to 0.16 mm), positioned next to the collection station, in order to prevent the entry of sediments, caused by turbidity, into the system.
