USACE Workshops on Coastal Texas Protection

USACE Workshops on Coastal Texas Protection

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is seeking representatives from federal, state and local governments and agencies, Indian tribes, non-governmental organizations, academia, business and industry and individuals interested in participating in public workshops for the purpose of gathering ideas for addressing coastal storm risk management and ecosystem restoration in the coastal Texas region.

This outreach effort is being conducted in conjunction with the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Reconnaissance Study. USACE is interested in identifying available information and data that may be useful for this study.

Alternatives that may be considered during the next study phase could include structural solutions such as seawalls, levees, groins and beach nourishment; non-structural solutions such as buy-outs and flood proofing; and nature-based solutions such as preservation or restoration of marshes, dunes, barrier islands and oyster reefs.

These workshops will also be considered scoping meetings, in accordance with requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, in anticipation that an Environmental Impact Statement will be required in the next phase of study.
