Funding Approved for Beech Mountain Lake Dredging

State Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) said that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will soon award a grant to Beech Mountain Lake Association Inc. in Luzerne County to remove sediment from a private lake on its property.

DEP said the sediment was caused by an abandoned mine’s spoil pile washing into the lake.

“I am happy to support worthy projects like this one, which we hope will correct a problem that raised the concern of area residents,” said Toohil. “I am also pleased the association was eligible to receive the full amount of funding that was requested.”

DEP said the sediment was the result of many years of erosion and had turned the water in some spots cloudy and black.
