New Suez Canal Will Not Affect Archaeological Areas, Minister Says

The new Suez Canal Development project will not affect the archaeological sites in Sinai and Suez Canal provinces, said Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damaty.

The area of the new project does not include any archaeological sites, he added during his visit on Sunday to Sharqiya province.

The digging works were divided into 33 sectors and assigned to specialized civil companies and two road divisions of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

The project will boost Egypt’s economy and help speed up the movement of vessels through the 193 km long canal, which connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
