TSHD Lelystad - Gibdock's Biggest Project in 2014

One of the biggest projects handled in 2014 by the Gibraltar-based Gibdock has been definitely the docking of Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger Lelystad.

This is the second time that 137-meter-long TSHD has been to Gibdock for repairs.

The general drydocking project includes steelwork, pipe, mechanical and painting work, with steelwork inside the hopper tanks particularly challenging.

Gibdock’s Production Director, John Taylor said, “Lelystad’s return to our yard shows that the combination of good location, excellent climate, safety, service and craftsmanship we offer can combine to attract even special visitors, like this dredger. Dredgers are by no means our bread and butter, but we get a regular stream of work from operators who know we have the capabilities to handle the heavy duty repairs often required on such vessels.

Lelystad was built in 1986 by Dutch yard IHC Merwerde to BV class. She has a hopper capacity of 10, 329 cubic meters and can dredge at depths of 70 meters.
