Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park Dredging Project Completed

PCi Dredging of Minocqua, WI, a subsidiary of Peterson Companies, Inc., has completed a million dollar dredging project at Lakeside Park, the crown jewel of Fond du Lac’s park system.

The dredging operation, which started in December 2013 and just wrapped up last week, removed around 70,000 cubic yards of silt material from 7,000 feet of manmade water channels in the Park, bringing the water depths to 6’ to 8’.

The channels had been severely choked with sediment that washes in from Lake Winnebago, and in some places was only inches under the water surface. A full-scale dredging project like this was last completed around 1960,” said Public Works Director, Mr. Jordan Skiff.

During the project, PCi used three different barges to remove the material and send it through a one mile long piping system to a disposal site on City-owned land.

We have been very impressed with their professionalism, responsiveness, and innovation throughout the project,” added Mr. Skiff.

The company used a combination of open-trench dewatering and geo-bags to complete the dewatering in a manner that allowed the work to continue while meeting water quality standards for the discharge.
