Kingston Wharf Refurbishment Almost Finished

The repairs to the commercial shipping wharfage at Kingston in East Cowes, which have been carried out successfully by Prestec UK Ltd, specialists in structural concrete repairs, are now nearing completion with clearance expected imminently, and will provide a ‘fit-for-purpose’ wharf structure with a lifetime of at least 20 years.

CHC’s Marine Services Manager, Barney Sollars, said: “The refurbishment of the waterfront at Kingston has been technically challenging, however, the works have progressed smoothly and I would like to thank our leaseholders Isle of Wight Fuels and Isle of Wight Aggregates for their cooperation throughout; we look forward to continuing a successful relationship with them.

The concrete repairs involved the use of high pressure water jetting to remove corroded and defective parts of the wharf, before reinstatement of the structure with a sprayed concrete repair. Repairs to the steel and timber fenders were also completed.

The Kingston Wharf repairs represent a significant investment and will ensure the terminal (including the fuel and aggregate berths) is well placed to continue serving the local community for many years to come.
