Dredging Underway at Port Hedland

The Port Hedland Port Authority has begun annual maintenance dredging of the inner harbor, swing basin, berth pockets and the main shipping channel, according to the port notice.

Operations will be conducted on a 24/7 basis and are estimated to be completed by the 30th October 2014.

The following vessels will be utilized:

  • Sebastiano Caboto- Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger
  • Boolathana – Plough Vessel
  • GO PURIYA – Survey Vessel

All mariners and recreational boaters are requested to remain clear of the dredge and dredging operations and exercise extreme caution when transiting inner harbor areas. All communication regarding dredging activity and associated vessels should be made via the Shipping Control Tower on Channel 12 or 16.

To avoid close quarter situations, designated holding areas have been established for dredge use, whilst shipping movements are being conducted within the inner harbor.
