Picture of the Day: Dredging the River Tone

Dredging the River Tone

The dredging scheme of an 8km section of the rivers Parrett and Tone, part of the agency’s 20 Year Flood Action Plan for the Somerset Levels and Moors, began back in late March and is scheduled for completion by the end of October.

The above picture shows floating plant working on the River Tone just downstream of Brooks Farm.

So far approximately 120,000m³ of silt has been removed during the project with  just 0.5km of river (1km of total river bank length) left to be dredged.
