Jacob Riis Park Beach Replenishment Begins

Jacob Riis Park Beach Replenishment Begins

The National Park Service (NPS) has announced that sand replenishment at Jacob Riis Park Beach in Gateway National Recreation Area has begun.

The beach sand replacement project will provide approximately 200,000 cubic yards of sand for the one-mile shoreline segment.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, has partnered with the NPS to design and implement the project, which is expected to return Riis Beach to its pre-Sandy condition.

During the replenishment project, sections of the beach will be closed to public for their safety.

Replenishment is expected to take up to two weeks.
