Contract Awarded for Stark, Davis, Simmons Bayous

J.E. Borries Inc. has won a $2.3 million contract from the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to dredge key areas of Simmons, Stark and Davis bayous in the Ocean Springs.

According to the Sun Herald, the work is part of a larger FEMA grant to dredge material silted in during Hurricane Isaac several years ago.

FEMA originally estimated that the work would cost $3.4 million, but Borries’ bid came in at only $2.9 million, reported the Gulf Live.

We had to go back and prove the original depths of the channels and show what they were after Isaac,” Supervisor John McKay said. “It was quite a bit of siltation in the areas to be dredged. The channels are relatively long and we had a lot of siltation.”

Work is scheduled to begin in early December.
