GLDD Ends Dredging of Lake Mauvaisterre

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) has competed dredging of the Lake Mauvaisterre in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Approximately 550,000 cubic yards of sediment was removed from the lake during the project, improving the lake’s water quality and adding about 111 million gallons.

The project, aimed to increase water quality and capacity for the city’s backup water source, received a green light last fall from the council. It represents an $3.7 million investment, which was approved by Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in 2013.

We are working with the land owners to put in waterways and dry dams to help mitigate the silt that’s coming into the lake, so we’re going to continue to do that over the next two to three years, and we’re going to continue to do that as funds are available,” said Jack Cosner, superintendent of utilities.
