Lanesborough Dredging Still Pending

A full dredging operation to try to contain the Asian clam on the river bed at Lanesborough in Co Longford is not likely to take place for some months yet, announced shannonside.ie.

Amanda Mooney, Director of the Shannon River Basin at Inland Fisheries Ireland, stated that the process to carry out dredging of the river bed is a complicated one.

She said a licence will have to be obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency to see where any material taken from the bed can be disposed of, and weather conditions at this time of year are likely to be a factor too.
