Cheboygan River Dredging About to Begin

The Cheboygan River dredging program is scheduled to start on Monday, November 24, according to Interim Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice.

Luedtke Engineering Company of Frankfort, Mich., will undertake this very important cleanup project which will last about two weeks, reported Cheboygan Daily Tribune.

They plan to work around the clock, weather permitting,” Eustice said. “A lot of the work is outside the breakwall of the river, and wind could slow them down.”

Eustice added that the dredging material is slated to be dumped in Lake Huron at an 80-foot-deep disposal area that is about two miles straight out from the river.

Dredging will also take place further down the river, including as far south as Plaunt Transportation, which operates ferry service to and from Bois Blanc Island.
