More Funds for Rhyl Flood Defenses

Rhyl will receive additional £1.9 million from the Welsh government for the improvement of its coastal defenses.

The additional investment for this north Wales town brings the total funding for the flood defense scheme to £6.3 million. The announcement was made today by Welsh Government Minister for Natural Resources Carl Sargeant.

According to the BBC News, the scheme includes improvements to the original vulnerable sea wall, built over 70 years ago and will include the construction of a concrete revetment, wave walls and a widened promenade to provide a wave splash zone.

Once finished, the Rhyl scheme will provide protection reducing flood risk to over 2,600 homes and commercial properties in the area.
