People in Cardigan are invited to attend a drop in session to discuss issues around flooding in the town. It comes as Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is assessing the potential for a new flood scheme to protect the 113 properties at risk of tidal flooding.
At the event, staff from NRW will be keen to talk to local people about their experiences of flooding to gather information which could help them with a potential scheme in the future.
Phill Pickersgill, Flood Risk Manager from Natural Resources Wales said: “ We know that people in Cardigan have suffered from flooding time and time again, as recently as last November, and during the terrible storms which wreaked havoc across our coastline last January. ”
“ We’d really like to hear their first-hand experiences as we look at potential options for a new flood defense scheme. Local knowledge of the area is important to us, and any information we gather from the events will help to inform our decisions. While we can’t always stop flooding, we hope our investigations will lead us towards some solid plans which will help to manage and reduce the risk of flooding in the area. ”
A free tidal flood warning service is already available to people in Cardigan. Following last winter’s flooding, NRW has also helped local people to set up a community flood plan in conjunction with local councilors.
The drop in sessions will take place at the Ceredigion County Council offices, on Morgan Street, Cardigan.
