Rye Harbor Dredging Announced

Maintenance dredging of the Rye Harbor has been scheduled to begin on January 19th 2015, reported today the Environment Agency. 

Hydrodynamic dredging is expected to last for 7 days, working day and night, and will be completed using a pump barge under the control of a small tug unit.

The dredging will take place at the following locations:

 

  1. Strand Quay;
  2. Strand Approach;
  3. Bridge point/River Brede sluice;
  4. Rock Channel;
  5. Simmons Quay;
  6. Confluence River Rother/ Rock Channel (Western Point);
  7. Rye Wharf “Turning Circle” (east side);

The dredging barge and tug will display shapes and lights as required by the “Collision Regulations”. Mariners are requested to give the dredger a wide berth and pass at slow speed obeying any instructions given by the dredging master.
