SRBPP Meeting Starts Today

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ first public workshop on the Sacramento River Bank Protection Project will begin today, January 14, at 4:00pm in the Arthur F. Turner Community Library, West Sacramento.

The release of the Sacramento River Bank Protection Project (SRBPP) Draft Environmental Impact Statement/ Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) is not only a major milestone, but also a critical point for public review and involvement that is carefully guided by state and federal regulations.

This public meeting will be conducted to satisfy the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements for the Draft EIS/EIR, as well as solicit meaningful input from agencies, elected officials, key stakeholders and the interested public.

Originally authorized by Section 203 of the Flood Control Act of 1960, the Sacramento River Bank Protection Project is a long-term flood risk management project designed to enhance public safety and help protect property along the Sacramento River and its tributaries.

The plan describes potential methods of erosion repair work for up to 80,000 linear feet of riverbank along the Sacramento River system and its tributaries. Each February, the Corps conducts a visual inspection of the levees and banks of the Sacramento River Flood Control System to record an annual inventory of erosion sites and prioritize them for potential repair. To date, more than 830,000 linear feet of riverbank have been repaired under the program.
