Congressman Nolan Assigned to Key Subcommittees

House Democratic leaders have appointed U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan to four key subcommittees that direct the nation’s air, rail, highway, water and pipeline safety policies.

As the only member of the Minnesota delegation on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Nolan will serve on the following subcommittees:

– Highways and Transit, which has jurisdiction over all federal aid for highway construction and mass transit systems and aid to state programs, including intermodal facilities;

– Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, which has jurisdiction over all railroad transportation programs and governs the construction and management of America’s pipelines and the transit of hazardous materials by any public or private carrier on any transportation mode;

– Aviation, which has jurisdiction over construction and management of federal airports and federal assistance to airport construction and maintenance, airplane certification, air traffic control systems, noise and safety standards, and essential air service programs to rural communities;

– Water Resources, which has jurisdiction over all federal waterways construction and transportation – including management of federal locks and dams, dredging, harbor maintenance – and other programs affecting the waters of the U.S., such as spread of plant and animal invasive species, flood control, protection of watershed impacts on national parks, and wilderness areas.

The Eighth District is one of America’s great rural areas – and as such, we have specific needs when it comes to bringing our roads, bridges, airports and waterways back up to the highest standards and improving our regional airports and harbors,” said Nolan.
