Well ahead of schedule, the Consortium Dredging International NV (DI) and Great Lakes and Dock Dredging Company (GLDD) have reached their first dredging milestone of 11.000.000 m³ on lot 6 of the New Suez Canal project. The canal is now reaching 28% completion.

The project was launched by the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on 5 August 2014.

The New Suez Canal dredging scheme, one of the largest in recent history, is estimated to be worth over $2 billion.
