Mackay Breakwater Project Nears End

The Mackay Breakwater Repair Project is nearing its completion, according to North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation.

NQBP contractors are currently sourcing, transporting and repairing armor rock (approximately 66,000 tonnes) on the southern, middle and northern breakwaters.

In addition, upgrade works are underway on the southern breakwater (approximately 47,000 tonnes) to extend the design life of the structure and provide a further level of immunity to the Mackay Port and wider community.

The breakwater was damaged in late January 2014 by Tropical Cyclone Dylan.

Substantial completion is expected by March.
