Corps to Hold Workshops on Thurmond Lake Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, seeks public comments for an upcoming shoreline management plan update for the J. Strom Thurmond Lake project.

The Corps will hold public workshops in three communities (Lincolnton, GA, McCormick, SC, Evans, GA) on March 2-5 to allow the public to gain information or offer suggestions.

The plan provides guidance and information for Corps managers and the public on managing the shoreline and adjacent public lands and waters controlled by the project. The shoreline management plan defines what actions adjacent landowners can take to change or improve the shoreline.

Typically people use the shoreline management plan to apply for a dock permit or to seek permission to do underbrushing along the shore,” said Chris Spiller, natural resources manager at the Thurmond Project. It also describes the procedures to add electricity and water to a dock or build a walk or path to the dock.

The Corps last revised the plan in 2001.
