Sand Traps Protect Wooli Beach

According to the Beachcare groups in the coastal settlement of Wooli north of Coffs Harbour, sand-traps on the foredune are working remarkably well.

Wooli Beach has survived the recent heavy surf and king-tides with very little damage, announced ABC News.

President of Coastal Communities Protection Alliance Wooli, Bruce Bird, said that the foredune traps have protected the main dune.

The only part that was affected was in-between the sand traps,” Bird said. “There’s evidence the wave surge ran up between some but not all of them. Probably two or three were affected, and there was a little bit of scouring out that way. But there was no damage to the main dune, or the toe of the dune.

Mr Bird said the sand-traps have a built a solid foredune, and the beach is now looking very healthy.
